What is WIC?
WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a supplemental nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers and young children to eat well and stay healthy.
Who does WIC help?
WIC is for women who need better nutrition and who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby. WIC also serves families with a low to medium income and children up to 5-years-old, including foster children. Working families may qualify.
What does WIC provide?
The WIC program provides special checks to buy healthy foods, such as milk, juice, eggs, cheese, cereal, dry beans and peas, and peanut butter. The Resource Connection also provides information about nutrition and health to help you and your family eat well and be healthy. Support and information about breastfeeding is available, along with help to find health care and other community services.
How do I know if I qualify for WIC?
You must be pregnant, breastfeeding or have a child under the age of five who may have nutritional needs. You need to live in either Calaveras or Amador counties and meet the income guidelines. To see if you're eligible or to make an appointment, call the Resource Connection's WIC office at 223-7685 or (800) 218-2427.
