Are services and information kept confidential?

If you are accessing domestic violence or sexual assault services, all information and services are kept confidential. However, be aware that domestic violence and sexual assault counselors are mandated reporters; they must make a report if they suspect child abuse. If you are accessing court self help legal services, there is no attorney/client privilege.

How much do services cost?

Most domestic violence, sexual assault and prevention services are free of charge. Services for which there are fees include some community self defense classes. All court self help legal services, including attorney consultations, are free of charge.

Do the self help attorneys represent you in court?

No. A self help attorney can assist you with paperwork and explain the legal process involved with your case, but he/she is not your attorney. There is no attorney/client privilege and a self help attorney will assist both sides in a case.
